An object in space that is made of hot gases is a star. A star is a big, bright ball of burning gases. Stars are held together by gravity. The Sun is the closest star to Earth. Without the Sun, we would have no life on Earth. Changes in how the Moon’s shape looks are called its phases. The changing shapes of the Moon are called phases. The phases of the Moon depend on its alignment with the Sun and Earth.
