Concave and Convex Polygons

A concave polygon has an indent while a convex polygon does not.

You can remember this as a concave shape that has an indent like a cave.

Let’s consider few examples:

1.

This is a concave polygon because the top is indented or caved in.

2.

This is a convex polygon because there is no indent.

Let’s take some more examples:

1.

This is concave because it is indented.

2.

This is also concave because the left hand side is indented or caved in.

Summary:

A polygon is a closed figure made of line segments.

A concave polygon has an indent while a convex polygon does not.
