Regular and Irregular Polygons

A regular polygon is a polygon in which all the sides are equal and all the angles are equal too. If a polygon is not regular, it is called irregular.

For Example: Determine if each polygon is regular or irregular:

1. Regular pentagon

regular pentagon.png

This is a regular polygon because all the sides are the same length and all the angles are equal.

2. Rectangle

This rectangle is not regular because not all its sides are the same length. Thus, it is irregular.

3. Rhombus

This is not regular because, although all the sides are the same length, but all the angles are not equal. Thus, it is irregular.

Do you know which 4-sided figure is regular?

Its a square because all of its sides are equal and all of its angles are equal, too.
