Forming a Possessive Noun

Possessive nouns show ownership or possession.
 

dog’s bone

boy’s bike
 

To form a possessive:
 

We add an apostrophe and -s (‘s) to a singular noun.
 

Matt → Matt's glove
 

When a plural noun ends in -s, we just add an apostrophe (‘) to the noun.
 

the boys → the boys' camp
 

When a plural noun does not end in -s, add an apostrophe and -s (‘s) to the noun.
 

the children → the children's toys
